Block Out Your World

Turning your 2D design into a 3D template

What is Blocking?

“Blocking out” an area is done to show the scale of an area and to plan how the immersive world can be experienced.
There are no details added, no texture work or lighting in the blocking phase. Everything is extremely rough.
This allows you to narrow the focus of designing the world through steps so that you don’t feel overwhelmed when you are trying to create magic!

How do you block out a design?

Blocking out a design starts with the design you created prior.
The goal of blocking is to convert your 2D sketch into a 3D “sketch”
The more details are in your design, the easier it will be to visualize them in 3D space.
You can start by adding the large objects in your scene then adding the smaller objects in the scene next.

The power of primitives!

Primitive shapes are great to use for blocking because they allow you to 3D objects in 3D space without having to worry about details.
You can change the shape and scale of the primitives fit the object or space you want to add details to.
The provides for a very fluid and flexible design process.
