Getting set up

If you need to install TidalCycles, the easiest thing to do is to go to the main TidalCycles website and follow the installation instructions there: https://tidalcycles.org/Installation

As a basic overview, you’ll be installing

  • SuperCollider, the open source sound synthesis engine that actually generates the sound from signals Tidal sends
  • ghc, the program needed to run the Tidal code
  • the actual Tidal library itself
  • Atom, a text editor where you’ll enter your Tidal code
