Game Audio Design: Sound and Music is the first of two planned 10-week courses designed to build a foundation for exploring interactive and immersive audio through the medium of video games. While the industry of game development continues to emerge, this course aims to place an emphasis on the intersection of narrative and artistry that power video games as engines for immersive storytelling – and to find our role in telling these stories through music, sound, and shared experience.
Our exploration begins by underscoring the significance of audio in the delivery of a game’s story and aesthetic, as well as the ways in which video games and game audio have shaped the way our stories are told today. From here, two divergent but intersecting paths lie ahead: sound design and music composition. You are encouraged to start on whichever path interests and excites you most, then to return for the remaining path as you conclude.
